Arriving to Ecuador

DOCUMENTS: No visas are required to visit Ecuador for a period of 90 days per year.

MONEY Currency: American dollar. ATM network in all cities. Many locals accept Visa, Master Card, American Express, Diners Club.

In Puerto Villamil, Isabela Island, there is not ATM machines, but Western Union point is available, we recommend you take enough cash in Isabela, The las city with ATM machine is Puerto Ayora, Santa Cruz Island.

PLUS / VOLTAGES: 110v and 60Hz Outlets are single phase two wire. You can get adapters in any hardware store.

MEDICAL ADVICE: Carry around personal medicines of frequent use, a basic first aid kit, and a personal hygiene kit..

About Isabela Island

Isabela Island originally called Albermarle, is the biggest of the archipielago and occupies more than 58% of all the mass of Galapagos. It is formed by a chain of  6 young and occasionally active volcanos.

One of them is Wolf, is the highest point of the islands at 1707 masl. In Puerto Villamils there are various sulphur lakes that house dozens of flamingos, beaches of fine white sand, craters that show signs of recent eruptions, marine fissures where you can see tintoreras (white tipped sharks).

Isabela also has a history, close to Puerto Villamil is the Wall of Tears, witness to the human cruelty when there was a penal colony on the island.

Notes: In Puerto Villamil there are no cash point (ATM)  The banks of Pichincha and Pacifico are close to the passenger dock of Puerto Ayoroa, there are Money Gram and Western /Union available on Isabela as well as pharmacies, supermarkets, restaurants, a small airport and other main amenities.
